This game won 3rd place in Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play competition.

Three years ago, Proximity became an incredibly popular free browser game, played by millions worldwide while they were bored at home, work, or school. The game is incredibly simplistic, looks ugly, and took only a week to develop, yet it still remains popular today. Now, three years later, the creator of Proximity has developed a worthy sequel using the powerful XNA technology, packing it with many new features, including 4 player cooperative or competitive multiplayer.

Proximity takes the essence of strategy games -- battles for control of territory and armies -- and distills it down to a simple, easy to understand set of rules that makes the genre more accessible to casual players than ever before. Also, the tiles, once placed, can never be moved or removed, so the games do not take multiple hours to complete, with the players trying to wear the enemy down by sending wave after wave of enemies one after the other and hoping the dice rolls go in their favor.

The premise is simple: you have 5 tiles in your hand at any given time, each tile with a number on it from 1 to 20, representing the strength of that tile. Each turn, you can place a tile on any empty space on the hex-based board. Once that tile is placed, it affects any tiles surrounding it: tiles that belong to its team are reinforced by 2 points, enemy tiles with a smaller number than the tile placed are captured, and enemy tiles with the same or higher numbers than the placed tile have their strength reduced by two points. The rules are very simple, yet still allow for many interesting scenarios, much like Othello or Risk.

Each turn can take as little as five seconds, keeping the intensity of the game high and at a fast pace. After the board is filled, the scores on all the tiles are added up and the team with the highest score is the winner!

This submission highlights the core gameplay, user interface, team support, artificial intelligence, and some of the features that will be in the final version of the game. The final game is expected to have special board tiles, missions with unique challenges, statistics, more game options, two more game modes, and Xbox Live support.

Have fun, and capture lots of tiles!
